Rolled & Welded (R&W) pipe is the go-to solution for steel pipe diameters larger than 48–72 inches (where DSAW and seamless manufacturing become impractical or impossible). It is fabricated by rolling heavy steel plates into cylindrical “cans” (typically 8–12 ft long), longitudinally welding each can with submerged arc welding (SAW), then circumferentially welding the cans together to achieve any required length. The process allows virtually unlimited diameter and wall thickness while maintaining excellent quality.
